October
is National Coming Out Month!
National Coming Out Day is Oct.
11, 2008. This is the anniversary
of the 1987 Gay and Lesbian March
on Washington. Over 500,000 people
from all over the country marched
for our rights, and this event
is still honored every year.
National Coming Out Day events
are aimed at raising awareness
of the LGBT community among the
general populace in an effort
to give a familiar face to the
LGBT rights movement.
What
this means, is that once again
it's time to burst forth from
our closets! To celebrate this
lovely In-Your-Face month, visit

WEB STATS
In September we had 35,427 visits
and 705,621 accesses--another
incredible month! Our
monthly report from TrustGage,
shows another huge increase from
last month, with our site jumping
32,033 forward in the ranking
of all websites in the world!
Our link popularity has also jumped
1,506 in one month, which is excellent
progress:

Our Lesbian/BI
Women Online Support Group
now has 828 members from all over
the world, and just this month
we had women join who are living
in England and Africa! Here's
a recent comment from one of our
members:

initially joined because I felt
like I was stumbling around
in the dark with questions I
did not have answers to. I had
to watch and read in silence
for a considerable amount of
time before engaging in any
conversations being very concerned
for anonymity and such. Quite

"Why Lesbian Marriage Is So
Important " is live online:
Since the California Supreme Court
overturned the ban on same-sex marriage,
there has been a firestorm of controversy
over the decision. From the Religious
Right's stance that "Marriage
is between a man and a woman"
to ten other states asking California
to reverse their decision and wait
until "The people can have
their vote on this in November,"
it seems everyone has a point of
view, and, once again, gay women
and men are caught in the middle
of a religious-themed political
agenda.
What's funny about the "Marriage
has always been between a man and
a woman" statement is that
during Medieval Europe, clergy regularly
performed same-sex union ceremonies,
which were almost identical to heterosexual
weddings. The only difference was
that the same-sex unions were considered
for love, and most of the heterosexual
unions were for the joining of two
high-powered families...

"Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow?"

Kathy and I run a support group
for women who are coming out. The
other day, one of our members asked
for advice concerning pubic hair.
Seems someone told her that to find
a woman, she would have to get a
Brazilian wax, and this member was
not too happy about the idea of
having every last sprig of her pubic
hair snatched from her body by a
total stranger, and who can blame
her?
Her friend’s thought was "Heck,
guys like it so girls must too,
right?" which made us wonder
where this shaven bare idea was
coming from. Kathy and I feel being
completely shaved infantilizes women
and it really is a complete turn-off
to us...

"Together We Win, Divided We
Fail " is live online:
A dear friend of Kathy’s just
turned 72. She and her sister and
brother are all gay and they are
almost positive their father was
too. They are the poster family
for biological gayness. Kathy sent
her one of the Ecards from the Amazing
Dreams Publishing website for her
birthday. It was a lesbian book
cover from the 1950s. Her friend
sent the following message in reply:
"Thank you so much for the
B-Day card. It was perfect. However
I was not out in the 50's. There
was not even a bar for us to gather.
We went to each others’ homes
and apartments. It was a crime to
be homosexual, and we knew of people
who were arrested and jailed for
short periods. Even in the 70's,
the clubs were routinely raided.
Someone was always at the door and
signaled with lights when the police
were on the way in. For that reason,
the men and women went to the same
bars. If the lights flashed on,
you grabbed the nearest guy and
his partner grabbed the nearest
girl. Everyone else pushed into
booths or around tables with whomever
they could. Back in those days,
we could have been kicked out of
school or lost our jobs if outed.
It has been an exciting but scary
journey..."
